DonateSupport The Center: Adopt | Current Projects | Memberships | Business Memberships | Donate | Gift Shop | License Plate The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center is a not-for-profit, American Zoo & Aquarium Association (AZA) accredited facility dedicated to providing visitors to the Yellowstone area an opportunity to learn about, view and ultimately appreciate the grizzly bear and gray wolf. The GWDC depends solely on private donations, admission sales, gift shop sales and fundraising programs such as animal adoption and membership for financial support. The core of the Center's effort is to empower visitors with knowledge about grizzlies and wolves through live animal displays and educational programs. The bears at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center had to be removed from the wild because they were becoming dangerously comfortable around humans. The grizzly bears that reside at the GWDC are animals unable to live in the wild for different reasons. Many were orphaned and rescued from certain death. Others had become nuisance bears and were destined for destruction. These animals have a second chance at the Center and, by helping with the education of visitors; their lives may help other bears remain in the wild. Their stories help share a valuable lesson of how people can take the proper steps to ensure bears stay forever wild. The wolves were captive-born, surplus animals that could never be released into the wild. The GWDC agreed to take numerous pups from different litters. These wolves were given the opportunity to develop strong social ties and have since formed cohesive packs. The wolves at the Center act as ambassadors, providing a greater understanding of this predator in the Yellowstone ecosystem. The raptors at the GWDC are all non-releasable birds that have been injured or abandoned in the wild. These birds-of-prey have traveled with staff to various schools as part of our outreach programming. The in-house raptor program continues to be one of our most popular education programs. The Center has future plans to expand in 2008 by building a new River Valley Wolf Habitat that will include a Naturalist Cabin. The new exhibit will allow the Center to display two different packs of wolves. The Naturalist Cabin will feature various interpretive materials related to wolves as well as indoor viewing of the wolf habitats. Your donation will support everything from the feeding, enrichment and veterinary care for the animals, to our educational programs and future expansion plans. If you have any additional questions about how you can help, please contact the Center at 800-257-2570 or email us at fundraising@grizzlydiscoveryctr.com. |
